In 2020, Lizzie and I decided to move into a motorhome to live full-time. I felt that I should record this unconventional move in some way – and so I recorded my first video diary on 7 October 2020 as we embarked on the start of our new adventure.

I didn’t know what I was going to do with the video at the time, but I’m glad I did record it as a reminder of such a pivotal time for us. I have made further recordings since and this website seems a good place to publish my ramblings on our nomads journey.

These videos of the first week are a great reminder of my thinking at the time, although hopefully it is clear that I had (and still have) no ambition to be some sort of ‘nomad-life influencer’. There’s plenty of folks putting out great content on digital nomads, van life, and the like – which is great, but not my thing. (Hopefully that is a bonus to all those who hate the crappy popup web ads etc you get on these kind of sites).

We were very upbeat about our motorhome experience from day one. It was a fun new challenge. We had a few concerns over the practicalities of working from a motorhome, like getting online or timing video calls (so we didn’t interrupt each other in a small space), but no real worries.

A week later, things were still upbeat, even though that first week was what you might describe as being fully immersed. Due to Covid19 restrictions I was confined to the motorhome for the first fortnight of our new life.

This was because I was working one week in three in Brussels at the time and anyone coming in from another country had to isolate.

We had anticipated that of course, and the motorhome was quite sufficient for isolated living

However, having spent most of the previous year confined to living in our house under Covid lockdowns, even living in the more confined space of the motorhome seemed somehow quite freeing.

To be honest, we’re still loving that freedom of travelling and working without a home base to the present day.
